I know lacrosse is a traditionally a spring sport and MLL
plays its season in the Spring/Summer. However, when I was in HS back in the early 90s, I remember seeing several VA HS play lacrosse in both the Spring and Fall (because they didn't sponsor a football team). Soccer was the other sport that I remember some HS played in both the Spring and Fall because they didn't sponsor football.
I think part of the MLL's problem is they may not have the best TV package to promote the league. At least any time I have seen a Bayhawks game, it is never live. Instead it is a rebroadcast of a game that was played earlier in the week. From an indoor perspective, I think the NLL and various arena football leagues have the same media problem.
